Today, Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s Founder and CEO, announced to subscribers of his Facebook Page that the largest social media network will acquire Instagram, a mobile app for the iPhone and Droid in which users can edit and share unique photos.
According to his post, users of the app will still be able to share photos with their friends on all social media platforms that are already available. Users will not be required to share their photos with Facebook unless they connect the two platforms themselves.
Instagram has built up a network of around 30 million users in less than two years (with over a million of those users in just this last week due to the launch of Instagram for Android). With that in addition to the only 17 employees that work at the mobile company, the possibilities on how much this app could grow with the Facebook team behind it are huge.
In just 6 hours Mark’s post had 111,221 ‘Like’s, 18, 837 shares, and 134 comments including “Great news. This is going to be great! Congratulations.
” and “Ah amazing! I love Instagram! be great to see what you guys do with it.”
It will be interesting to to see what Facebook has in store for the app as it’s user base grows, and the extremely talented team at the social media network giant get a hold of it.
